Féile na Máighe

Féile na Máighe
Adare Village, Co. Limerick, 25th - 27th May 2012
'Féile na Máighe' will be held in Adare Village, Co. Limerick, Friday 25th May to Sunday 27th May 2012. This festival, which will be officially opened by Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh, celebrates the unique culture, history and heritage of the area. Inspired by the great Féile na Máighe celebrations in Croom, Bruree and Adare during the seventies, a rich and engaging programme of events is planned for the festival weekend.
The 18th century Maigue poets, Filí na Máighe, will be honoured once again during the festival. The music of Seán Ó Riada, who lived in Adare for 28 years, will echo throughout the village. Guest performances will be given by legendary bodhrán player Tommy Hayes, Irish Celtic spiritual singer Nóirín Ní Riain, the unique musical group Liadan and highly acclaimed Cór Cúil Aodha.
The Croagh School of Music will highlight the music of Sean O’Riada on Saturday in the old boys school, where he once attended as a pupil. That day will also see two seminars in the Heritage Centre by Proinnsias de Priondergast (Maighe place names and the Irish Tradition) and David Collopy (Irish contribution through music and song to American Freedom).
Visitors and locals can enjoy live concert performances, workshops, inter-cultural dance displays, street-side music, music sessions in local hostelries, children’s puppet shows through Irish and English, the Ó Riada Mass in Holy Trinity Abbey and much, much more.
Several events will run alongside the main festival program such as various poetry recitals, stone painting at Draíocht and a Family Fun Day in Adare’s CBS Boys School. Philomena Begley’s 50th Anniversary Tour also rolls into Adare, Sunday 27th May, at the Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel following Mossie's Ceilí Roadshow. Tickets can be booked through Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel.
