The ShelfLife Buy Irish Survey
Recent research has provided conclusive results that the vast majority of Irish grocery shoppers want to purchase Irish food at every opportunity and favour the introduction of a label to identify food as Irish.
A new independent survey carried out by ShelfLife magazine reveals that over 90% of shoppers say they try to buy Irish food when shopping. Traceability is very important for shoppers with over 9 out of 10 saying it is important to know where their food came from. What is also clear from the survey is that Irish people would like to buy Irish and would like to think that by doing so they are supporting Irish Goods.

A Marketing Tool in Today's EU
The success of Guaranteed Irish has been noticed as far away as Poland, where a similar service is being established. Guaranteed Irish has been asked to attend a seminar in Warsaw and explain how we created an organisation to promote domestic excellence. With Polish accession to the EU in May, the Polish service will ensure that the nation has a competitive advantage at home as well as an opportunity to market goods and services throughout the EU.

Guaranteed Irish opposed to ‘Made in the EU’ label.
Guaranteed Irish is concerned over the European Commission’s proposed initiative to ensure all products manufactured in the EU carry a mandatory “Made in the EU” label.
The European Commission is still deciding whether to draw up a formal proposal but if it is taken further, traditional national origin marks could be replaced with a generic EU mark. Guaranteed Irish believes that this approach would meddle with market forces and the freedom to choose by both the manufacturer and the consumer. Many of our members trade on the Irishness and to label products ‘Made in EU’ will as we see it devalue Irish products.
Loosing the opportunity of letting the final consumer know the origin of what he or she is going to buy, is a restriction for many of our manufacturers.
If this proposal is taken forward, Guaranteed Irish will lobby the EU vigorously on behalf of its members.
