Guaranteed Irish in collaboration with their construction members have announced a call to all Irish construction and supply members to join the Guaranteed Irish Green List.
This Green List will be the first of its kind in Ireland to be produced and will offer architects, engineers, and quantity surveyors a resource of locally produced materials that can be specified when building a house, school, hospital, or any building in Ireland. It was initially aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and supporting local businesses but in the wake of Covid-19, it has become even more important.
The list will include all the elements of the supply chain required for a building that can be sourced locally and reduce the carbon footprint while supporting jobs and businesses here in Ireland. The idea is supported by the RIAI, Engineers Ireland, CIF and the construction, manufacturing, design, and hardware industry.
The idea pioneers a sustainable specification listing of Guaranteed Irish products and services as the construction sector returns to work post-Covid-19 and has been welcomed by industry leaders. Guaranteed Irish has put a call out to all businesses this week to participate. Leading global construction firms Kingspan, Tegral, IPL, Tretford, Glennon Brothers, Wavin, and SISK have already engaged and many more have been invited to participate. Guaranteed Irish construction members see the importance of a standardised specification list of sustainable construction and interiors listing for Ireland. These companies operate in Ireland, protect jobs and support communities.
The project will act as a showcase for what can be achieved in the construction industry when adapting a sustainable and circular economy mindset. The CEO of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Kathryn Meghen said, ‘The benefit of having such a specification listing available to Irish architects and engineers will profile the Construction Industry in Ireland as one which demonstrates its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promotes sustainability as the construction sector returns to work post-Covid.’
‘This project will address many challenges for both the Irish Government and the Guaranteed Irish construction, engineering, and manufacturing members. It will provide a model for what a sustainable circular economy looks like here in Ireland, and will highlight the construction industry supply chain, which supports over 100,000 jobs and communities across Ireland. By purchasing products and/or services with the Guaranteed Irish brand 92% of consumers feel they are helping the economy. By using materials and products sourced, manufactured, designed and distributed by Irish businesses, the Guaranteed Irish Green List offers more local alternatives and secures Ireland’s construction sector,’ said Brid O’Connell, CEO, Guaranteed Irish.
Guaranteed Irish construction members, such as BeSpace, Kore Insulation, Kilsaran, and many more, are leaders in construction at home and internationally. The plan aims to build a house using materials, services and skills from Guaranteed Irish members to showcase the Irish Construction sector as a sustainable, modern, and an All Together Better choice for architects, engineers and developers along with the end-user/ owner. The Green List is open to all Guaranteed Irish members who have services or products that are used in building construction, retro-fitting, and design in Ireland. Guaranteed Irish encourages those in the construction sector to sign up to be a part of this initiative.
