Guaranteed Irish presented Amgen with an award for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme of the Year at the annual Pharma Industry Awards in Dublin last night.
Amgen is a one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, working to develop innovative medicines, undertake transformative research, and deliver high-quality medicines through its world-class biomanufacturing facilities. In Ireland, Amgen has significant operations in Santry and Dún Laoghaire.
The company Amgen beat off stiff competition from Alkermes, AbbVie, GSK Ireland, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson to scoop the CSR Award at the Pharma Industry Awards for its Amgen Foundation Science Education Programmes.
Commenting on Amgen’s win, Brid O’Connell, CEO of Guaranteed Irish, said: “Guaranteed Irish represents businesses that are proud to invest in Ireland and that make a significant contribution to the communities in which they are based. We were delighted to sponsor the CSR category at the Pharma Industry Awards because the shortlisted companies exemplify these qualities: they have all developed innovative CSR programmes that are making a real difference to their local communities and to Irish society overall.
“The Amgen Foundation was a well-deserved winner of the CSR award. It has invested over €600,000 in three science education programmes in Ireland: the Amgen Biotechnology Experience, Amgen Teach and Amgen Scholars. These programmes have made a massive difference to over 59,000 students and 533 teachers nationwide. The investment has provided hands-on biotechnology experience to 5,939 secondary-school students and has allowed 34 undergraduates the opportunity to conduct research in leading academic institutions.
“To maintain Ireland’s competitiveness in future years, investment in research and innovation is key. Amgen is demonstrating excellent leadership in this regard, and we are delighted to recognise their efforts by presenting them with the award for CSR Programme of the Year.”
October is ‘GI Pharma Month’. Throughout the month, Guaranteed Irish is showcasing the contribution made by the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors to jobs, communities and the Irish economy.
