Martin McVicar is Managing Director of Combilift, a forklift and material handlings solution provider based in Monaghan, Republic of Ireland. Martin’s career in engineering started with a summer job at truck-mounted forklift manufacturers Moffett Engineering. He became Moffett’s Chief Engineer by the age of 19. With Robert Moffett he co-founded Combilift Ltd., in 1998. Martin was just 29 when he was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, and the company has since won many prestigious industry awards for its ever-growing range of products and its operations.
Under Martin’s leadership Combilift has developed a wide portfolio of products to handle not just long products but also to ensure the safe movement and space saving storage of containers, oversized loads and palletised goods. Combilift is now the acknowledged leading manufacturer and innovator in its sector worldwide and has sold over 45,000 units. It exports 98% of its production to more than 85 countries around the world. Martin continues to develop new additions to Combilift range of products and to travel widely to explore new markets and applications for his inventions. Combilift continually invests 7% of all revenue in research and development as part of its relentless quest to find safer, more productive and more cost-effective ways to lift challenging loads in challenging environments. In 2018 Combilift opened its new Global Headquarters and manufacturing facility and currently employs 650 in Monaghan with an additional 100 people employed overseas.
